7/6/2013 – There was confusion concerning the Giants batting order in a game against the Dodgers. In the bottom of the first inning, the Giants had a runner on 3B and one out when Buster Posey hit an RBI-double to the RF corner. Dodgers manager Don Mattingly spoke to HP umpire Tony Randazzo, saying that Posey was listed fourth and Pedro Sandoval should have been the batter. Sandoval was ruled out, the runner went back to third, and Posey came back to the plate to bat in his proper spot, making the third out of the inning and wiping a run off the board for the Giants.

The Giants lose a 1st-inning run when they are caught batting out of order against the Dodgers. C Buster Posey is listed as batting fourth on the official line-up, but comes up third in the inning, and drives in a run with a double. The Dodgers appeal successfully and Pablo Sandoval, who should have batted third, is called out, while the hit is wiped out; Posey hits again, now in his rightful spot, but flies out to end the inning. However, Giants starter Madison Bumgarner makes sure the mistake does not turn out to be costly, as he retires the first 14 batters he faces and drives in two runs on his way to a 4 – 2 win.

Homer Bailey of the Reds throws the first no-hitter of the season, defeating the Giants, 3 – 0; Bailey also pitched the last no-hitter of 2012. He strikes out 9 while only a 7th-inning walk to Gregor Blanco keeps him from a perfect game. 1B Joey Votto makes a heads-up play to save the bid, however: one batter after Blanco’s walk, he fields a soft liner off the bat of Buster Posey, but realizes he has no play at first base, as Bailey is late in coming to cover; instead he throws to third base, where Todd Frazier tags out Blanco, turning Posey’s potential hit into a fielder’s choice.
