1919 – The Chicago White Sox lose the second game of the World Series, 4 – 2, to the Cincinnati Reds. Lefty Williams, one of eight Sox players involved in a Series-fixing scandal, walks three men in the fourth inning. After the game, he is confronted and attacked by Sox catcher Ray Schalk.
1919 – Just before the start of the World Series, the highly favored Chicago White Sox become the betting underdogs in the best-of-nine contest. Eddie Cicotte, a 29-game winner, is driven from the hill in a five-run 4th inning. The Cincinnati Reds’ Dutch Ruether pitches a six-hitter and helps himself with three RBI on two triples and a single for a 9 – 1 victory.

1919 – On Babe Ruth day at Fenway Park, the Bambino ties Ned Williamson’s major league mark of 27 home runs in a season with a game-winner off Lefty Williams of the Chicago White Sox. Ruth also scores the winning run in both ends of the doubleheader. Ironically, it will be the last game he plays for the Boston Red Sox in Fenway.
