The Brooklyn team is notified by a Brooklyn building inspector that the center field bleachers at Washington Park are unsafe. They are removed.

The Boston Herald box score credits Jake Beckley with a three-run homer to give Pittsburgh an 8 – 6 win over Washington. Under the rules of the era‚ which do not allow a team batting in the bottom of the last inning to win by more than one run‚ Beckley should be credited only with a triple, making the score 7 – 6. Apparently the rule is not strictly enforced.
Washington breaks its 17-game losing streak by whipping Louisville, 12 – 2.
