At the Baker Bowl, the Brooklyn Robins outslug the Philadelphia Phillies for a 20 – 16 victory in the first game of a doubleheader. Babe Herman and Johnny Frederick each have five hits for Brooklyn. The Phillies win the second game, 8 – 6. Frederick scores eight runs in the doubleheader to set a major league record for most runs scored in two games. The teams combine for a record 50 runs in a doubleheader.

On June 19, 1927 Jack Scott performs an ironman feat and becomes the last pitcher to go the distance in both ends of a doubleheader. At the Baker Bowl, with the Phillies leading the Cardinals, 12 – 3, a section of the right field stand collapses causing hundreds of fans to fall on the patrons below. Although there are many injuries, the only death is caused by the stampeding crowd.
1925 – In a trade of pitchers, the New York Giants send Jack Bentley and Wayland Dean to the Philadelphia Phillies for Jimmy Ring. Bentley will return to the Giants before the end of next season.
1925 – Brooklyn’s Dazzy Vance narrowly misses back-to-back no-hitters over Philadelphia, pitching a 10 – 1 no-hitter five days after a 1 – 0 one-hitter. The Phils’ lone run is scored by Chicken Hawks, who reaches second base on an error. Five days earlier it was Hawks’ 2nd-inning single that ruined Vance’s no-hitter. On June 17, 1923, Vance lost a no-hitter with two out in the 9th. In the second game, the Phils win, 7 – 3, behind Hawks’ grand slam.
Giants OF Hack Wilson is the seventh player to hit two home runs in one inning; he does it against the Pirates.
