On January 10, 1989 — The Houston Astros acquire veteran righthander Rick Rhoden from the Yankees for Pedro DeLeon (minors), Mike Hook (minors) and John Fishel. Rhoden starts 20 games and will go 2-6 with a 4.28 ERA in his final season in a 15-year career.
Rhoden will end his career with 159 wins, but he was known as a good hitting pitcher. He hit 9 homeruns and batted .238 over his career. Rhoden even during the DH era was used as a pinch hitter by the Yankees in 1988.
