Joe Niekro takes his brother Phil deep for only homerun of his career

On April 6, 1975 – – The Houston Astros purchase Pitcher Joe Niekro from the Braves for $35,000. Niekro will develop into a great starting pitcher for the Astros winning 144 games and posting a 3.22 ERA during his 11 years with the franchise. He will finish 2nd and 4th in the Cy Young voting in 1979 & 1980.
The Astros will become a contender and Niekro will not get a post season win in 1980 or 1981, in his 2 starts he did not allow an earned run over 18 innings. At 42 years old he will pitch for the 1987 Twins in the World Series and not allow a run in 2.1 innings. He will also get his only World Series Ring.
