The Phillies play their first game in Citizens Bank Park

On April 12, 2004 — In front of a sellout crowd of 41,626 fans, the Phillies play their first game in their $458 million Pattison Avenue ballpark. On a cloudy day, the Citizens Bank Park history begins with a 4-1 loss to the Reds with right fielder Bobby Abreu hitting the park’s first homer, accounting for Philadelphia’s only run. The National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum will display the bat used by Abreu. Abreu’s opposite field blast came off Paul Wilson in the bottom of the first tying the game at 1.

Randy Wolf the Phillies starter allowed single runs in 1st and 2nd the Red and allowed 4 over 6. The Philles could not solve Wilson leading to the opening day loss.
