On November 21, 1934 — The Yankees purchase Joe DiMaggio from San Francisco of the Pacific Coast League. The son of Italian immigrants will be one of three DiMaggio brothers to play in the major leagues. Dom and Vince are the others.

The Yankees paid the San Francisco Seals of the Pacific Coast League for between $25,000 and $50,000. Even though the 19-year-old outfielder has a torn tendon in his knee, he will become one of the game’s all-time greats.
