Ty Cobb steals third base and scores winning run

October 2, 1908, Ty Cobb steals third base, one of three in the game against St Louis Browns at Bennett Park.

Detroit chases Rube Waddell in the first inning, then they nearly toss the game away. Trailing 6-5 in the bottom of the 9th, Cobb ties the game with a single and scores the winning run on a controversial call on Claude Rossman’s triple. The Browns argued unsuccessfully it should have been a ground-rule double.
