On November 3, 1992 — The Cincinnati Reds trade Paul O’Neill and Joe DeBerry, a minor leaguer, to the New York Yankees for Roberto Kelly. This was Reds General Manager Jim Bowden‘s first trade and it ended badly. O’Neill was about to turn 30 and had an off-year in 1992 (.246/.346/.373 with 14 homers in 148 games), but became a star in New York. In nine years as a Yankee, he batted .303/.377/.492 with 185 home runs in 1,254 games. O’Neill played in four All-Star Games and five World Series with the Yanks.
