1915 – The Kansas City Packers of the Federal League are the first major league team to play a game against inmates inside a prison as they visit the federal penitentiary at Leavenworth, KS. They win handily, 23 – 1, as they play all of their regulars in the game.

The Players’ association exercises its option to extend the Collective bargaining agreement, ensuring labor peace through October 31, 2001. The expected move comes as no surprise as the players appear to be happy with the November 1996 deal, but the owners have expressed concerns the present CBA has widened the talent gap between the high and low-revenue markets due to escalating salaries.

6/17/1996: Raul Mondesi had a three run homer and Todd Hollandsworth hit a two run shot for the Dodgers in the top of the first against the Cubs at Wrigley Field. Cub pitcher Mike Campbell also allowed two other hits. After two batters in the bottom of the first and a 1:38 rain delay, those hits and the Dodgers 5-0 lead were wiped out.
