On April 12, 1955 — At first, the Missouri fans will warmly receive the Athletics franchise’s shift from Philadelphia. Giving the A’s a big civic parade for their opener. Playing at Municipal Stadium, the Athletics beat the Tigers, 6-2, in their first game in Kansas City. The standing-room crowd of 32,147 is the largest paid crowd for any event in Kansas City and overall as the A’s draw 1,393,054 patrons to the ballpark in their first season, second only to the Yankees in American League attendance.
 
Alex Kellner (image) picked up the W., and Don Bollweg delivered the key hit. With two outs, and two on, he delivered a 2 run pinch-hit single to right field on a full count.
