After playing their first four seasons at the LA Memorial Coliseum, Dodger Stadium, the first major league ballpark privately financed since Yankee Stadium opened in 1923, opens in Chavez Ravine, LA, the facility cost $22-million. It was financed with a low two-percent interest loan from the Union Oil Company in exchange for exclusive rights to advertise within the stadium.
