Honus Wagner becomes the first player in baseball’s modern era to reach 3,000 hits

On June 9, 1914, at The Baker Bowl Honus Wagner becomes the first player in baseball’s modern era to reach 3,000 hits. The Hall of Fame shortstop collects the milestone hit, a double off Erskine Mayer, during the Pittsburgh Pirates’ 3-1 loss to the Philadelphia Phillies.

Cap Anson is the only other major league to amass as many hits. However, his hit total has changed many times over the years and since new records indicate Anson is below 3,000 hits Wagner would of been the first to reach 3,000.
