Phil Lewis sets the error record with 5 at Short in 18 chances

On July 20, 1905  – Shortstop Phil Lewis has a busy afternoon at Washington Park in Brooklyn’s 2 – 1 win over the Cincinnati Reds. Lewis has 18 chances and comes up with seven assists, six putouts and five errors, the latter tying the National League record. On the day Brooklyn made 8 errors, allowed 7 hits and 3 walks to the Reds, but the Red’s could only score 1 run.
