1988 – Nolan Ryan takes a no-hitter into the ninth inning against Philadelphia but loses it and the lead. Mike Schmidt singles with one out before Lance Parrish doubles to tie the game. Houston wins it in the tenth, 3-2.

On April 26, 1988, New York Mets first baseman Keith Hernandez hits a pair of home runs and drives in seven runs during a 13-4 rout of the Atlanta Braves. The seven RBI give Hernandez 1,000 for his major league career.
Claudell Washington hits the 10,000th home run in New York Yankees history in a 7 – 6 victory over the Twins at Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome. The historic home run comes off future hall of famer – Jeff Reardon in the top of the ninth inning in New York’s eventual extra-inning 7-6 victory over Minnesota at the Metrodome.
On April 20, 1988, the Baltimore Orioles set a major league record by losing their 14th consecutive game to start the season. An 8-6 loss to the Milwaukee Brewers pushes the O’s past the 1904 Washington Senators and the 1920 Detroit Tigers for the worst start in big league history…
After 10 consecutive losses, the Atlanta Braves win their first game of the season, 3 – 1, over the Dodgers. Zane Smith is the winning pitcher. Atlanta’s 0-10 start is the worst in National League history.
1988 – Glenn Davis drives in five, including three on his fifth home run of the young season, to slam the Reds, 9-3. It makes for an unhappy 47th birthday for Cincinnati skipper Pete Rose.
