1980 – Nolan Ryan ‘s first win as an Astro comes in an 8-0 victory over Cincinnati. It’s the initial dividend from baseball’s first million-dollar-per-year contract. Ryan fans seven and walks six in seven innings. Jose Cruz is the star with three hits and five RBIs, including a bases-loaded triple in the first inning.
4/22/1980 – In the bottom of the second inning, the Mariners’ Bill Stein and Joe Simpson batted out of order, both reached base and yet nothing was said. With one out, Simpson doubled to left and then Stein was hit by a pitch. Larry Cox singled to right filling the bases but pinch hitter Leon Roberts grounded into a double play to end the inning and the threat. Seattle scored two runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to beat Oakland, 5-4.
On April 22, 1980, Barry Foote hits a grand slam with two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning to give the Chicago Cubs a dramatic 16-12 win over the St. Louis Cardinals. The Cubs’ catcher finishes the game with eight RBIs.

1974 – Cesar Cedeno drills two homers and drives in five to pace Houston past Atlanta, 7-0 . Claude Osteen, who was dealt by the Dodgers over the winter, scatters seven hits.
Designated hitter Ron Lolich, Mickey’s cousin, hits the third of his four career home runs, a two-out walk-off grand slam, giving the Indians an 8-7 comeback victory. Boston had scored three runs in the top of the ninth to break a 4-4 deadlock.
On April 22, 1970, New York Mets ace Tom Seaver ties a major league record by striking out 19 batters in a 2-1 victory over the San Diego Padres. Seaver also strikes out the last 10 batters he faces, setting another big league mark. Earlier in the day, Seaver was officially presented with the 1969 National League Cy Young Award.
In his first major league start, Rollie Fingers of the Oakland Athletics shuts out the Minnesota Twins, 7 – 0, at Metropolitan Stadium, stopping Minnesota’s seven-game winning streak.
1966 – Dave Giusti surrenders eight hits but walks away with a 2-0 shutout against the Giants. Giusti delivers three hits of his own but solo homers by Joe Morgan and Jim Gentile provide all the scoring.
