Andre Dawson debuted on September 11, 1976, at Three Rivers Stadium in Pittsburgh batting 8th playing right field going 0-2 vs Jerry Reuss. The Montreal Expos will lose 4-3. Dawson, will play 24 games and pick up his first hit 2 days later vs fellow Hall of Famer Steve Carlton. He debuted at home in September 15 @ Parc Jarry vs the Chicago Cubs. He won’t hit a homerun in 76, but will win the Rookie of the year in 1977.
“The Hawk” starred as a five-tool center fielder for the Expos, hitting 225 homers and stealing 253 bases for Montreal in ten full seasons. With Ellis Valentine and Warren Cromartie, and later Tim Raines, he formed one of the most talented outfields of the era.
