On September 27, 1938 –42,000 fans are packed into Wrigley Field to see Chicago Cubs starter Dizzy Dean take on Pittsburgh pirates in a series that will dictate the pennant. Dean is consoled by teammates after being lifted in 9th up 2-0.

A Wild pitch from reliever Bill Lee made it 2-1 but he’d save it for Dean striking out Al Todd with the tying run on third. moving Pittsburgh to 1/2 GB back They will sweep series & take flag by 2 games
