2000 – On his father’s 50th birthday, Ken Griffey, Jr. becomes the youngest player, at 30 years and 141 days, to hit 400 career home runs, beating the previous mark set by Jimmie Foxx, who was 30 years and 248 days old.
Cal Ripken, Jr. sets off a very enthusiastic ovation at Camden Yards when he becomes the 29th major leaguer to hit 400 career home runs. The Oriole third baseman connects for a three-run blast with two outs off right-hander Rolando Arrojo in the third inning of the Birds’ 11-6 victory over Tampa Bay.
Jose Canseco becomes the 28th player in major league history to reach the 400 home run plateau. Canseco hits a 386-foot shot in the 3rd inning of Tampa Bay’s 7 – 6 loss to the Blue Jays.
Giants OF Barry Bonds hits his 26th homer, the 400th of his career, off Kirt Ojala of the Marlins in the Giants’ 10 – 5 victory. He thus becomes the first player in major league history with more than 400 career home runs and 400 career steals.

Going deep off A’s hurler Mike Morgan at Fenway Park, Red Sox first baseman Carl Yastrzemski becomes the 18th major leaguer and seventh in the American League to hit 400 home runs. ‘Captain Carl’ will end his 23-year career with 452 homers.
