“The Reading Rifle” Carl Furillo. 1953 NL batting champion and a .299 lifetime batting average. Had a gun for an arm in right field. He was probably overshadowed by the future HOF’s on the 50’s Brooklyn teams. Played in 7 World Series. He also had a key pinch hit for the L.A. Dodgers in the 1959 World Series.

In May, 1960, he was released by L.A. while injured. He sued the team claiming they did so to avoid the pension due a 15 year man. He was awarded $21,000 and claimed he was blackballed over his law suit, never playing again. The league denied it. He was 38 at the time.
