Craig Biggio of the Astros collects his 3,000th career hit

On June 28, 2007, Craig Biggio of the Astros collected his 3,000th career against the Rockies in Houston. The milestone hit came in the seventh inning against Colorado starter Aaron Cook, and plates Brad Ausmus to tie the Rockies at one. In total he will collect five singles on the day and his final hit puts him at third base in the 11th when Carlos Lee rocks a grand slam off Brian Fuentes into the Crawford Boxes for an 8-5 thriller.

Biggio was thrown out trying to stretch the hit to a double. It is one day shy of the 19th anniversary of his first major league hit, a June 29 single against Orel Hershiser. Biggio becomes the 27th member of the 3,000-hit club and the first to reach it with a five-hit performance.
