Clemente and Campanella have great games … one at the start of their career and other at the end. Both are simultaneously great and tragic figures. This is why it’s so meaningful to listen to these treasures.

The beginning of the end for ol’ Diz. If he hadn’t been so impatient, he could have waited for that toe to heal and continue with his wonderful pitching career for years after. Instead, he came back too early and altered his pitching style to avoid landing too heavily on his fractured toe and as a result, ruined his arm. Without his famous and dangerous fastball, Dizzy’s major league days were numbered. Very sad really. This right here, is a significant moment in baseball history. Thanks for posting.

I listened to this game on the radio in 1965. It must have been a Friday night game, because I was up late and Dad had the game on radio. I was about half asleep when Lewis homered. Over the years I have thought about this game many times because I am a Reds fan just like my dad. Maloney was one of the Reds best pitchers of all time. Great memory for me
